Kathmandu (Pahichan) May 15 – All quarters of lives have protested a bill formulated by government to amend National Human Rights Act 2068.
Human rights organizations, civil society organizations and people involved in the promotion and protection of human rights have launched a signature campaign to press government to backtrack from its position. According to them, the bill directly goes against the international norms and values and Paris principles.
Youth Advocacy Nepal organized a program to discuss about the bill. After the program, a press release signed by 37 people has issued a statement demanding to ensure the autonomy of NHRC as mentioned in the constitution.
They demanded to cancel all the provisions that aim to curtail the rights of NHRC. They also demanded to financial rights of gender and sexual minority. They also asked to ensure the practical implementation regarding the autonomy of NHRC.
