NHRC to submit LGBTI report to government

Rupandehi (Pahichan) June 5 – National Human Rights Commission is preparing to submit a report to government regarding the rights of sexual and gender minority.

The report will be based on the current fiscal year which will provide details about the status of this community in the country.

Speaking at a program organized in Butwal on the rights of sexual and gender minority, member of NHRC Prakash Wasti said they would draw the attention of government to solve the problem of this community through the report.

Wasti said that he would continue to fight for the rights of this community. He urged the members of this community not to feel isolated in the society. “NHRC is always with you and this community should not be portrayed as a matter of sympathy,” he said.

Province no. 5 Director of NHRC Samjana Sharma has chaired the program. The program was attended by Chair of Human Rights and Peace Society DP Khanal, INSEC representative Rima BC, chair of Blue Diamond Society Aanik Rana, Vice Chair of Federation of Nepalese Journalist Niru Gautam, third gender Awantika Gharti, Pushpa Lama, Resham Neupan among others highlighted the problems faced by this community.  They said family, society and other members of this community should provide rights to them.
