Kailali (Pahichan) June 25 – Members of sexual and gender minority have said that though constitution has ensured their rights, they are still forced to face discrimination in the society. They said laws have not ensured their rights.
Speaking at a program organized in Dhangadi, they said constitution has ensured the rights of all caste, communities and classes, including sexual and gender minority but government agencies and society are yet to embrace this principle. They said government agencies which are responsible to implement the constitution, are discriminating this community.
According to Sudurpachim Society, around 5 thousand members of sexual and gender minority have come into contact. However, only two members of this community have acquired citizenship as per their identity. Earlier, they had taken the citizenship under the male category.
According to Ashika Chaudhary, even after the ruling of Home Ministry, local administration is reluctant to cooperate to provide citizenship to this community as per their identity. She said separate reservation should be allocated for this community.
Vice-chair Karuna Nepal said that members of this community are still denied from opportunity due to the lack of citizenship. She said provincial and local governments should think about this community when they formulate laws.
