Kailali (Pahichan) August 28 – Third gender Monica Shahi has registered FIR at District Police Office Kailali accusing her husband of raping her. She had married with Ramesh Nath, a permanent resident of Parsuram Municipality Dadeldhura in 2076. In the complaint, she has stated that her husband repeatedly raped her in a hotel in July this year.
She has claimed that her husband Ramesh forcefully raped her who was drunkard.Monica is younger wife of Ramesh Nath. Earlier, Ramesh Nath had claimed of receiving consent from elder wife to marry with Monica. Soon after the marriage, they had taken marriage certificate. Both have provided interview with media claiming that it is first same-sex marriage in Nepal.
Though she started to face violence soon after the marriage, she did not bring this issue out considering the prestige and dignity of family. Earlier, police was reluctant to accept FIR stating that third gender would not face rape case. She has also demanded property from father-in-law.
Police official Sudeep Giri said that they registered FIR following the provisions in civil and criminal codes. Giri informed that they are searching Monica’s husband. Moinca checked her health at Seti Zonal hospital. “It is not only my personal issue, it is a proof that third gender also faces sexual violence,” she said.
Few days ago, Monica had said that they are living a happy married life. Ramesh Nath’s father Bhawani Nath declined to comment about the claim of property.
