‘Legalize same-sex marriage’

Rupandehi (Pahichan) November 8 – Members of sexual and gender minority have requested the concerned authorities to take measures to legalize same-sex marriage in Nepal.

They said all homosexual, gay, third gender and inter-sex has equal rights like male and female to choose their partner and live with family. Speaking at a program organized in Butwal, members of this community said that they are forced to live along in the absence of legal framework.

Sudharsan Baral, Social Development Minister of Province no. 5 said provincial government remains committed for the rights of sexual and gender minority. He said that Ministry has allocated budget for the empowerment and rights of this community.

Provincial member Rama Aryal and Dipa BK said provincial policy would address the concerns of this community. Chair of Mahuri Home Rabi Thakur said government should be serious to ensure the rights of this community. Manila Neupane, Cordinator of Brikshya Samuha said members of this community are denied from their family rights in the absence of law. “If there can be marriage between male and female, why not between members of this community?” she said.

Anik Rana, Chair of BDS Rupandehi said they should get the rights to marry as per their will. “If you die your family members may perform last rites but who will perform last rites when we die?” she questioned. Inter-sex Sishir Bhattarai said they are facing discrimination in the society.
