Kathmandu (Pahichan) December 15 – District Administration Office Makawanpur has provided a citizenship to a third gender from sexual and gender minority community. The office provided citizenship following the circular of Ministry of Home Affairs issued in 2069 B.S.
Third gender women Sani Thing of Hetuada Sub-metropolitan city have received the citizenship. She received citizenship at the age of 31. Earlier, women Ajita Bhujel and Neha Manandhar have received citizenship mention others category. Lalit Ghalan of Hetauda-13 has recommended for the citizenship keeping Nabin Sigdel and other locals as witness. Administrative Office Madan Lamal Thing said they provided citizenship following the recommendations from ward level.
“We asked about the delay in receiving citizenship and provided citizenship in the presence of ward chair and elder brother,” he said. District Administration offices are providing citizenship under O category and altogether 3 people have taken citizenship from this district.
Program Coordinator of Blue Diamond Society Makawanpur district Suraj Kiran members of this community are still facing difficulties to get citizenship. Kiran informed that another one member is all set to receive citizenship as per gender identity. The constitution has provided equal rights to this community when it comes to receiving citizenship.
