BDS President Gurung faces fraud charges over hydropower shares

Kathmandu : Sanjeev Gurung (Pinky, Sheetal), President of Blue Diamond Society, a non-governmental organisation advocating for the rights of sexual and gender minorities, has faced accusations of misappropriating thousands of rupees in the name of hydropower shares.

She has been accused of collecting money from BDS members under the pretext of investing in a hydropower company called Bibeksheel Aadarsha Investment Company Pvt. Ltd. established back in 2017.

She reportedly collected money ranging from Rs 11,000 to Rs 200,000 from each of the victims by promising them shares in the company and a double return on their investment if they purchased 100 units of share each.

The company was reportedly constructing a hydropower at Dhunche in Rasuwa district.

However, the victims said that they have not received any shares or got their money returned.

When asked for returning money, Gurung took their citizenship cards and passport sized photos saying they meant for the necessary process, they said.

“But we doubt the potential misuse of our citizenship cards.” Rather they received threats from Gurung if they spoke up about the missing funds, they claimed.

Demanding the return of their money and action against the guilty, they said that they were preparing to file a police complaint.
