Kathmandu (Pahichan) August 7 – UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has expressed the concern about the rights of gender and sexual minorities. When members of this community were at the premises of State Affairs Committee, Prachanda enquired why they visited the Singhadurbar. “You have come here to say some thing, right? Prachanda asked.
At first glance, Chairman of Blue Diamond Society Pinki Gurung, Executive Director Manisha Dhakal, Deputy Director Parshuram Rai and Legal Advisor Sujan Panta believed that Prachanda did not ask them. Prachanda was inside the Bus and he invited the team near to him. Dahal asked about concerns of this community in the new constitution. Dhakal requested Prachanda not to remove the wording sexual orientation from the draft constitution. Dhakal also thanked Prachanda for incorporating their rights in draft Constitution. Prachana said his party struggling to ensure the right of this community in the new constitution.
Chief Whip of party Giriraj Mani Pokhrel assured that sexual orientation will be continued in the constitution. Ramesh Lekhak of Nepali Congress advised to Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee. “I am in favoring of continuing the sexual orientation but other members are opposing it,” said Lekhak. Gurung, Dhakal and Rai said if sexual orientation is removed from constitution they will have to live without any rights.
