Make environment for our community in security agencies, sports among others: Gurung

Kathmandu(Pahichan) August 12 – Chairman of Blue Diamond Society Pinki Gurung has urged the government to make an environment on which homosexual and transgender people from security agencies, sports and arts could be open about their identity. According to her, there is a large number of homosexuals and transgender in security forces, art and sports.

Speaking at a program organized on the occasion of Youth Day, Gurung said government should make an environment of disclosing sexual status. According to Gurung, government has not identified the homosexuals and transgender of this sector. “We are receiving institutional complaints that who wants to come up with their identity are being harassed and discriminated, they are facing obstacles to come out,” Gurung said adding that there is a need of awareness activities in those areas. Ministry of Youth and Sports for the first time provided an opportunity to speak to the Gurung. Gurung said members of this community should be incorporated in this sector. Gurung informed that Society has made a remarkable progress. Gurung said for the first time, the rights of this community has been mentioned in the new constitution. Gurung said opportunity provided by Ministry has encouraged this community. He congratulated 19 people from various sectors who were facilitated on the auspicious occasions of Youth Day.

“Time is changing, I am fully convinced that the political, constitutional and social rights of this community will be ensured in the future,” said Gurung. On the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bam Dev Gautam, Ministry for Law Nara Hari Acharya and Youth and Sports Minister Purushttum Poudel facilitated 19 people from various sectors .
