There should be nation-wide discussions on same-sex marriage: Khadka

Kathmandu (Pahichan) August 22- Chairman of Akhanda Nepal Rastriya Party and Parliamentarian Kumar Khadka has said that there is a need of intensive consultations regarding same-sex marriage.

Speaking to Pahichan Radio program, he said there is a need of nation-wide consultation as CA has ensured the rights of gender and sexual minorities in the draft constitution which has reached a final stage.

After Supreme Court order, a high-level government commission has already recommended government to formulate a law for legalize same-sex marriage. The report of the Commission is gathering dust at Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare.

“Homosexuals and transgender have already received passports and citizenship on the basis of their gender identity, similarly draft constitution has ensured that there should not be discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation which is not just ordinary achievements,” Khadka said adding that all the rights could not be ensured at time.”

He said CA as a structure and society has already accepted same-sex marriage and there is a need of wide range of discussions. As constitution drafting process has reached a final stage, the promulgation of constitution will ensure the rights of this community.
