No decisions are made to remove sexual orientation from draft constitution: Shrestha

Kathmandu(Pahichan) August 28 – Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N) leader Sushil Kumar Shrestha who is also member of Constituent Assembly (CA) has said that Constitution Drafting Committee has not decided to remove the sexual orientation from final draft constitution.

Speaking to Radio Pahichan Program, Shrestha said though there was discussion on sexual orientation before the first draft is prepared, now there have not been any discussions on it.

“Before the preparations of first draft, some lawmakers have expressed concerned on sexual orientation,” Shrestha said,” CDC Chairman Krishna Sitaula has told me about it several times.” In a light exchange of words, Shrestha said he has not been an expert about it.  He said there has not been any discussion on it while finalizing the draft constitution.

Sexual orientation was passed by previous CA and provisions were there till the preparations of preliminary draft but now it has been deleted. Similarly, the provision of holding local election within next six month was also removed.

“The sexual orientation has been removed from constitution,” Shrestha said. He said major parties and indifferent to secure the rights of gender and sexual minorities. Though the sexual orientation has been removed, no party is ready to take its responsibility. There was not any discussion in the CDC about it.
