Earthquake affected gender and sexual minorities receive relief materials

Kathmandu(Pahichan)September 2 – Blue Diamond Society has begun to distribute the relief to the members of gender and sexual minorities who suffered from April 25 earthquakes. The Society distributed the relief money provided by various organizations after the Social Welfare Council provided the permission.  

The people who lost their relatives have received 1,00000, while 25,000 has been provided to  the people whose house has been damage due to earthquake, according to Society Chairman Pinku Gurung, Shreekumar Kadki, Ruksana Kapali, Rojina Rijal, Raju Lama and Rabi Gurung have received 15,000.  In the relief distribution ceremony Joi Wang of Asia Pacific transgender Network, Society Chairman Gurung, transgender rights activists Bhumika Shrestha, Simran Sherchan, Malayaka Lama among others were present.IMG_20150829_105748025

Deputy Director of Society Parshuram Rai said April 25 earthquake and other powerful aftershocks have damaged the 75 houses of the members of this community.  According to him, a member of his community, a staff and a relative of one staff died on earthquake. Earthquake has affected the two houses of the society. The society has provided Tent, medicine and provided shelter to the members of this community.

Wang and Kevan Helen appreciated the role played by society for secure the human rights, education, health, employment and in other sectors.  They have provided clothes at individual level to earthquake victims. Those clothes were provided to Mina Magar, Suman Chepang, Manjil Pradhan, Nirmal Thapa, Krishna Thapa, Sumit Poudel, Lalit Tamang, Rupes Thapa, according to Bhakti Sahi, Chairman Student Forum of Gender and Sexual minorities.
