Transgender also should join journalism profession: Magar

Bake (Pahichan) September 2 – General Secretary of Federation of Nepalese Journalist Ujir Magar has said that journalists do not have separate gender and religion. “Not only women, even transgender could become journalists,” Magar said, “We want the representation of women, Dalit, people with different ability, transgender among others in the journalism field.” According to him, journalist itself is an identity and no need to search other identities.

Magar, a coordinator of FNJ delegation entrusted to study the attack against journalists in Far-western Bank, said in order to highlight the plight of transgender they should be journalists. FNJ in its form has already mentioned others along with Male and Female.

“Others may not know the problems of transgender, but when they become journalists they should not be called transgender journalists,” he said. Gurung, however, said journalists should expose the wrongdoing and they should write news only the basis of fact and objectivity.
