Rupandehi (Pahichan) February 15 – Participants at a program have underlined the need of legalizing same-sex marriage. Speaking at a program organized at Bhairahawa, speakers said like opposite sex, members of LGBTI should be allowed to marry each other.
At a press conference organized by Bhairahawa Chapter of Blue Diamond Society, they said as constitution has ensured the rights of this community, same-sex marriage should be legalized as soon as possible.
They demanded to implement a government report on same-sex marriage. Staff of BDS Abantika Ghatri said state is still not open about providing rights to this community.
Gharti said all rights should be provided at the same time than a piecemeal distribution of rights. According to her, members of this community will be involved in the process of development of country if they are granted rights
Transgender rights activist Bishnu Maya Chepa said without legalizing the same-sex marriage, rights of this community will not be implemented. Chepa said role of media is very vital to implement the rights of this community. Media persons made commitment to raise the issue of gender and sexual minority to create awareness.
