Baglung (Pahichan) March 10- District Administration Office Baglung has started the process of issuing citizenship on the basis of gender identity. A human rights activist Rupesh Thapa Magar has received citizenship mentioning O in the gender category. He is the first person to receive citizenship under O category in the district.
According to Regional Program Coordinator Manila Neupane, police and civil administration are creating hurdles to issue citizenship urging to come up with hospital records which is not necessary.
Neupane said as members of gender and sexual minority have not changed their gender identify like the son of Santosh Pant, it is not necessary to seek such medical certificate. According to her, Abantika Gharti, a member of this community, will start the process of receiving citizenship as per gender identity.
As Thapa received citizenship as per gender identity, all members of gender and sexual minority are happy. Thapa said they would press the concerned bodies to implement the constitutional provisions about the rights of this community.
