A friend in need is a friend indeed, BDS is like a god for transgender: Rupa

Kathmandu/Pahichan- “It has been 20 years since I came to Kathmandu. It is obvious to face some minor sickness. However, four days ago, I faced a sudden loss of consciousness. I thought that I would die; they saved my life, said transgender Durga Lawati akin Rupa.

Rupa 1While undertaking rest, Rupa told Pachichan online, “BDS is a god for me because it saved my life”. Rupa, who is 42 years old, fainted due to high blood pressure. She was admitted at Medicare and Bir Hospital for treatment. The economic condition of Rupa was not good and it is very difficult for her to pay apartment charges.

Chairman of Blue Diamond Society Pinky Gurung collected donation from friends and relatives for her treatment. Fifty thousand rupees were collected for the treatment. “BDS is an organization that helps at the time of difficulties, if members of this community are hesitant to make their identity open, I ask them to make their identity open,” said Rupa. She expressed gratitude for the people who provided assistances during the time of difficulties.

Her hometown is Chisapani of Ilam district and she completed just grade five. “I used to wear the clothes of girl soon after reaching home from school,” she said. “Family members used to criticize me for wearing the clothes of girl,” Rupa said. She worked at BDS after family members were intolerant to her.  She still lacks courage to disclose her genuine identity of transgender.

She has five elder brothers and 6 sisters. “How can I accept my weaknesses as family is yet to accept it,” Rupa said with a hope that brothers and sisters will invite her. Rupa said members of this community should disclose their identity and unite to secure rights.
