Kathmandu (Pahichan) March 29 – Police has severely beaten transgender Roshani Lama in Ranta Park Shanti Batika while returning from Jamal buying some goods. Eyewitness Sunita Lama said Roshni came to conscious after the two hours in the hospital.
Police personnel Dhan Bahadur Ghimire, Sher Bahadur Gurung and Shyam Pahari were involved in attacking Roshni. Roshni has sought help from police when a person tried to manhandle. However, police has severely beaten her. Roshni has filed a complaint at National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
She has demanded to take action against police personnel, free of cost treatment and compensation. Roshni said police is manhandling while walking Durbarmarg area. “There should be freedom for us to walk freely in Durbarmarg area at any time,” Roshni said. There is injury in left eye, neck and backbone. She has submitted the medical report at NHRC.
Rights activist Bisoraj Adhikari, Ishan Regmi, Advocate Sujan Panta and Bhakti Shah demanded action against the culprit after the proper investigation. Transgender Muskan said they are facing police abuse while walking in the street for some specific tasks. Panta said Roshni filed a case following the advice of Blue Diamond Society.
“NHRC is the only body that is mandated to investigate the cases related to violation of human rights,” said Panta. Nepal Police Spokesperson Madhav Prasad Joshi said they would investigate about the cases. “The concern people should approach us, we will give feedback after knowing it,” said Joshi.
