Kathmandu (Pahichan) May 6 – Newly appointed Attorney General Hari Phuyal has said that he would start training from his own office to end discrimination against gender and sexual minority. Phuyal has already worked as legal expert on the issues of homosexual and transgender.
In a meeting with a team of Blue Diamond Society, Phuyal said he would forward the issues related to this community after the coordination with Ministry of Law. “Please provide me the list of issues that needs to be addressed and I will take initiation. I will organize a workshop among the lawyers,” BDS Executive Director Manisha Dhakal quoted Phuyal as saying to them.
Chairman of BDS Pinky Gurung extended congratulation for Phuyal for his appointment as Attorney General. Dhakal urged him to help to address the demands of gender and sexual minority. “Members of this community are compelled to live in policy custody. Along with this, there are several laws which as discriminatory,” Dhakal informed Phuyal.
Dhakal said a government report that recommends for same-sex marriage is gathering a dust in Ministry. Dhakal said that civil and criminal codes which are being deliberated in Parliament should be addressed. Dhakal said they have urged to use positive and non discriminatory words while formulating laws.
