Kathmandu (Pahichan) May 10 – Homosexual, transgender and inter-sex people have suggested Naya Shakti Nepal to accommodate the violence against this community. Women Department of Naya Shakti Nepal is preparing to set up a help desk related to violence against women. This community has suggested ensuring their participation and agenda in the desk.
Speaking at a program organized at National Women Commission, homosexual, transgender and inter-sex people urged to help to raise their agenda. “I am a homosexual women and I am facing discrimination. So I am facing dual violence,” said rights activist Apekshya Dahal.
“You should raise our voices. Otherwise, we will have to face dual violence,” Dahal said. Activist Ishan Regmi said there is much talk about the violence against women but violence against inter-sex children has not been raised and addressed. “Inter-sex children are facing discrimination from house, family and society. This issue should be raised by Naya Shakti Nepal,” said Regmi.
Transgender rights activist Bhakti Shah, Sudeep Gautam, Women rights activists Babita Basnet, Lili Thapa, Durga Sob and Saroj Sharma of Women Commission said there has been a lot of political violence and it is also violence not to ensure participation at decision making level. Hishila Yami of Naya Shakti Nepal said violence against women is increasing as state is weak. In the TOR of Help Desk, Naya Shakti Nepal has said that issues of transgender, sexual and reproductive health should be ensured while launching this program.
