Kathmandu (Pahichan) May 31 – Blue Diamond Society has said that government has not taken measures to ensure the rights of inter-sex children. Discussions are underway at Geneva regarding the rights of children across the world and representatives of Ministry of Women and Children are participating in the meeting.
However, Nepal officials did not raise the voices of inter-sex children. BDS objected for not raising their concerns in the meeting. Secretary at Ministry of Women and Children Madhu Prasad Regmi is leading Nepali delegation. “Nepali representatives did not raise the voices regarding the discrimination that inter-sex children are facing in family, school and society,” said Parshu Ram Rai, Deputy Director at BDS.
“It is objectionable that Nepal did not raise the voices and gender and sexual minority,” said Rai. However, issues related to citizenship and passport to transgender were presented in the meeting. According to him, inter-sex people are not in position of continuing their study due to the discrimination. Those issues should be raised in international platforms. Study has shown that one percent of total population make up the inter-sex people.
