Kapilbastu (Pahichan) June 7 – Local Development Officer of Kapilbastu has expressed a commitment of providing assistance to gender and sexual minority. Speaking at an orientation program jointly organized by Nawajivan Kapilvastu and Local Development Office Chandra Kanta Adhikari and others said they would provide all kinds of assistance to this community.
“At the local level, we will provide all kinds of assistances,” Adhikari said, “All the state organizations should lend their support to make them equal with other community,” said Adhikari adding that some of the government agencies do not have knowledge about this community.
Chief Executive Office of Kapilbastu Municipality Niran Bhattarai also pledged the full support to the LGBTI community. Senior Police official Nabin Shrestha said LGBTI should be informed about the legal procedures and other provisions.
“There is a need of informing this community about the legal process and services they want from local administration,” said Shrestha. Human rights activist Bhumika Shrestha presented about the sex, sexuality and gender. She said LGBTI exists in since immoral time.
As many Madhesi members could not understand the language, Sushila Belbase translated into local language. Transgender women Champa Kali said she is a member of Muslim community and they are facing a lot of difficulties. “There is a lot of discrimination which cannot be told, transgender are facing discrimination,” she said. Binod BC of Pahichan and Krishna Chandra Mishra of of Radio Sanskriti 90 MHZ said that media has not discriminated the gender and sexual minority.
