Teachers lack LGBTI component of curricula

Teachers lack LGBTI component of curricula

Kathmandu (Pahichan) June 23 – Generally it is believed that teachers know basic knowledge regarding national and foreign issues. Children also think that their teacher know everything. There are some truths in this assumption. It is also true that all people do not everything.

However, it is a sad that teachers who are teaching since a decade do not know in details about their syllabus.

It has been 20 years since the Nani Churi Bajcharya started to teach at Prabat Higher Secondary School. She teaches health and population.

Pahichan representative Ambika Dahal asked her about the LGBTI to her. “I have seen them in the shops sometimes but I do not know in detail about them,” she said. Dahal again asked whether she knows about such students.  She said she has not seen them yet and no one has informed me about their gender identity. Ambika again asked whether LGBTI issues are incorporated in curricula.

Bajcharya said she should have known if it was incorporated in syllabus. It has been two years since the Ministry has education has incorporated transgender in the curricula of 6,7 and 8 but teachers including Bajcharya do not know about it.

It shows that how our teachers are updated and what kinds of education they are providing.  However, she said that transgender should not be discriminated.  She said homosexual and transgender should be imparted the vocational trainings.
