Kaski (Pahichan) July 10 – Homosexual and transgender of Pokhara have urged the government to implement the rights enshrined in the new constitution stating that implementation part has been always weak.
Speaking at an interaction with journalists jointly by Norwegian Embassy, Naulo Bihani and Paribartan Nepal, homosexual and transgender said all people should make pressure to government stating that there should not be sole rely on donor agencies.
Coordinator of Naulo Bihani Project Raju Thakali said they are depending on donor agencies as government has not provided money. “Male and female are receiving employment but we have been denied,” he questioned stating that members of this community who are expelled from their homes are compelled to take sex profession.
He said that they are not getting employment problems. Thakali said government should arrangement employment for them. Rights activist Bisoraj Adhikari said sexual orientation is not a matter of making public. He said there is not proper environment in the society for homosexual to disclose their identity in the society.
Bindiya Gautam , Program Coordinator of Paribartan Nepal informed that five thousand homosexual and transgender are in contact with the office. Gautam said many persons are still reluctant to disclose their identity. She informed that members of this community was provided computer and weaving training from the fund they received from District Development Committee Kaski and Municipality.
According to her, the discrimination in the school and college has been decreased in the recent days. Roshni Rai, Chairman of Naulo Bihani appreciated the role played by media to establish the rights of this community.
