Smooth constitution implementation ensures LGBTI rights

 

Kathmandu (Pahichan) August 15 – CPN-UML lawmaker Aphilal Okheda has said that if there is a smooth implementation of constitution it would implement the rights of sexual and gender minority, including same-sex marriage. Speaking to Pahichan Radio program, Okheda said LGBTI will soon get rights and they will not have to stay without rights.  

“Our past constitutions failed to address the sexual and gender minority. This community is without rights and it is our responsibility to secure their rights,” said Okheda. He said that voices of all community should be ensured.  There is a tendency that whose voices are loud, their rights is being secured, such tendency should come to an end, he said.

According to him, there is a need of forming a mechanism where people would get their rights.  “The issues related to marriages and properties should be addressed by laws,” he said. He said country’s law and constitution should address all the communities.  He said despite the much development and many services, the mentality of people have not been changed. He underlined the need of changing the mindset of people.
