Kathmandu (Pahichan) August 18 – Blue Diamond Society has urged to make civil and criminal code gender-friendly and gender equality. A team led by Executive Director of BDS Manisha Dhakal met Legislation Committee of Chairman Parliament Ganga Chaudhary and asked to make it gender-responsive.
Before providing final shape to the bill, the committee is collecting suggestions from country and abroad. The team is visiting many countries to learn the international experiences. The team is all set to visit India from 20 Bhadra.
“The article 12, 18 and 42 has addressed our demands,” Dhakal said. The article 12 states about citizen as per gender identity, article 18 talks about positive discrimination and forming separate laws and article 42 has ensured social justice.
Though constitution has ensured the rights, laws have discriminated this community. The bills related to civil and criminal codes are pending in Parliament. However, they are not gender friendly and there are more than 300 words which have discriminatory gender phrases.
Society is preparing to conduct a seminar about the civil and criminal code and rights of LGBTI. Diwa Project Deputy Programme Coordinator Sanjaya Sharma asked to make laws ensuring same-sex marriage. Chairman Chaudhary and members Ram Narayan Bidari, Krishna Bhakta Pokhrel and Rewatiram Bhandari asked to fix the interaction about this community.
