Rukshana shows LGBTI visibility in the Nepal Sambat New Year

Kathmandu (Pahichan) November 3 – Rukshana Kapali has contributed a lot to secure the rights of LGBTI. She is also vocal on issues of indigenous people and ethnic group, including Newa Andolan. In the same context, on the day of Nepal Sambat New Year 1137, she has carried an LGBTI flag with a play card that says, “Celebrate New Year 1137 with LGBTI Pride” during a Vintuna Rally organized in Basantpur, Kathmandu on the day, as a member of Nepal Bhasa Club.

She is also indulged in linguistic rights movement and Newa language movement and selected as secretary of Nepal Bhasa Club, a club established to work for Nepal Bhasa, Lalitpur district branch. She says that, “LGBTI people must be visible in the society. Visibility is an important aspect of LGBTI rights movement, which helps to decrease stigmatization and social acceptance. It gives reach out to me about my visibility, I feel like I am continuing the work that gave me life, and I hope that I can help create spaces and opportunities for others.”
