Screening of nine films related to LGBTI

Kathmandu (Pahichan) November 14 – Nine small films have been screened in the Ekadesh International Film Festival related to gender and sexual minority.  Those films are basically from Nepal and Bhutan in the three-day festival. On the concluding day, there was a discussion on gender and sexual minority. They said that those films were made with a view of creating awareness about gender and sexual minority.  Participants said there has been improvement in the selection of words while describing this community.

In the interaction program, Sanjaya Sharma, Deputy Program Coordinator of Diwa Project BDS said all people should speak about the issues related to gender and sexual minority. He said that there has been achievement as there is support from all walks of life and campaign started by Sunil Babu Pant has contributed to accept the members of this community by family, society and state.

Subarna Thapa said film Soongava has addressed all the characters in the society. Soongava has incorporated the content about the women homosexuality.  He said there should be openness in the society. Diwakar Rajkarnikar of telefilms Singhadurbar said if films are created concreting on family it would help to end the discrimination against gender and sexual minority.  He said that they have not mocked the homosexual and transgender in the film. Rights activist Bharat said films and media could play a vital role to bring a change in the society.
