Kathmandu (Pahichan) November 19 – Chief Whip of Nepali Congress Chinkaji Shrestha has said that parties cannot backtrack from the rights provided to gender and sexual minority in the constitution.
Speaking to Pahichan, Shrestha who is Central Working Committee member of Nepali Congress said the rights provided by constitution will be implemtned. “As constitution has already provided rights to the members of this community, there cannot be debate against the same-sex marriage.
It would be against the spirit of constitution to stand against providing rights of gender and sexual minority,” Shrestha adding that laws should end the remaining discrimination against this community.
He said same-sex marriage should be legalized without any delay and short start a journey of peace and prosperity ending all forms of discrimination. He said civil and criminal codes will address the rights provided by constitution. He said, “ I want to sure the members of this community that their rights will be ensured.”
