Agenda has been established from street to Parliament : Sharma

Kathmandu (Pahichan) November 21 – Sanjaya Sharma, Deputy Program Director of Diwa Project has said that many rights of transgender have not been materialized. He said some rights are receiving full-fledged shape.

Speaking to Pahichan, Sharma said constitution has ensured the rights of this community which will be implemented through the formulation of laws. “In the last 16 years, the agenda of this community has been established from street to Parliament,” Sharma said, “The constitution has ensured the rights of equality and social justice under the fundamental rights provisions.”

According to him, article 12 of constitution has also ensured the rights related to citizenship. He said Ministry of Children and Social Welfare is working to prepare a draft of law that would allow the same-sex marriage. He said some issues are yet to be addressed. The diwa project is launching various programs targeting this community.
