Kathmandu (Pahichan) January 27 – Senior Journalist Babita Basnet has said that people do not become homosexual and transgender according to her\ his wishes.
Basnet who bagged the equality prized of this year said members of this community know better about their issues so they themselves should make effort to ensure their rights. “There are various types of identity within this community, they should work together to secure the rights,” Basnet said, adding that she and her organization has treated the members of this community like male and female.
Underling the need of intervention from the policy-level, Basnet said both government and non-governmental organization should mention other category in their official procedures.
Stating that it is matter of pride that rights of this community has been mentioned in the constitution, Basnet stressed on the implementation of such constitution for creating an equitable society. She said transgender along with their rights should raise the rights of other community.
