Number of homosexual, transgender increased: Study

Thakur Prasad Dulal/Kathmandu (Pahichan) February 19 – In the last six years, the number of homosexual and transgender has increased. A recent study conducted in assistance from donor agencies has showed that number has increased. The report has said that number of homosexual people is one lakh, 11 thousand, 8 hundred and 52.

Similarly, the number of transgender sex workers is twenty four thousand one hundred and eighty five, according to Bir Bahadur Rawal, Information Officer, and Centre for HIV AIDs control. The report states that number of women sexual worker, transgender, male sexual workers and homosexual has increased.

The study was conducted in 44 districts and it has shown that women, male, homosexual and transgender are under high risks of HIV infection. Similarly, study has shown that more women sexual workers, male transgender and people who receive drugs reside in Kathmandu.

After Kathmandu, such numbers are high in Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Kaski, Rupandehi and Banke District. The Center has also recommended undertaking further study regarding this.
