LGBTI to fight in local level elections

Kathmandu (Pahichan) May 11 – In the local level elections that is taking place on May 14, a member from gender and sexual minority has given candidacy from ward no 11 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Dipesh Bhandari who is working with Blue Diamond Society gave candidacy from Naya Shakti Nepal Party.  

“I have given candidacy without identifying myself, and I have started the publicity campaign,” Bhandari said, adding that there will be efforts to work in favor of gender and sexual minority as well as other issues. Reconstruction and resolving the problem related to drinking water are the major agenda of Bhandari.

Similarly, in the second phase of election which will take place in June 14, three members of this community are preparing to file candidacy in Rupandehi district. According to Anik Rana, the meeting of province of no 5 has taken such decision.

As per the decision Santu Pun from ward 8 of Butuwal sub-metropolitan City, Bimali Basnet from Ward no 10 of Devdaha Municipality and Anik Rana will file candidacy from ward no 8 of Tilotama Municipality.

According to Rana, the purpose of candidacy is to enhance the capacity of this community and ensure the access in the local level. Rana said it gives the message that members of this community are capable of doing something.
