Lalitpur (Pahichan) May 18 – Blue Diamond Society has started to induct the family members of gender and sexual minority in the rights campaign. Such efforts have been started from the program organized to mark International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia on May 17.
“We have started to invite the members of gender and sexual minority in the program,” said Manisha Dhakal, Executive Director of Blue Diamond Society. “We will make it even broader. It is a matter of happiness that United Nation celebrated International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia at the office premises United Nations,” said Dhakal. Dhakal underlined the need of the support from the family members to change the policy and social attitude.
A member of gender and sexual minority Raj Husen said changes should begin from individual himself. “There is a need of change on behavior not only the mind. The situation has been more comfortable for this community,” Husen said. Husen focused on Muslim community where talking about sex is a taboo.
Family members Anima Rai said it is a matter of pride that a member of family is homosexual. Rai said that she came to know from media about the gender identity of family member. She requested to see members of this community in an equal way. She requested to make an environment on which members of this community can join the government services.
Kasik Kapali said though his elder sister is transgender, he is ready to provide assistance. Madan Thapa said though his brother has turned into sister, he is receiving Bhaitika. Thapa said family members should lend their support to members of gender and sexual minority.
Santosh Pant, father of Catrin Pant who changed the gender identity said he is the guardian of gender and sexual minority. “There are few families who understand about this community. So there is a need of spreading awareness at grass-root level. I am even ready to prepare television program,” said Pant.
