Interaction between LGBTI and medical students

Kathmnadu (Pahichan) May 29 – An interaction program was organized between members of gender and sexual minority and Nepal Medical Student Society. The program was organized in the context of the Day against homophobia.

The content of the discussion was health and legal rights of gender and sexual minority. Durga Thapa, rights activists, informed about the progress made so far by Blue Diamond Society since its establishment. She said that Nepal has made a good progress when it comes to the rights of gender and sexual minority.

Transgender rights activist Bhakti Shah informed students about health problems faced by this community. Inter-sex Eshan Regmi shed light on individual problames, health problems and other psychological problems faced by this community. Advocate Sujan Panta said Nepal has demonstrated open heart cementing the rights of this community in the constitution. He hailed the decisions made by Supreme Court as well.

Deputy Director of Blue Diamond Society Parshuram Rai expressed the happiness for the initiation taken by medical students to deliberate on the issues related to LGBTI. Chairman of Nepal Medical Student Society Priyanka Shahi appreciated the program saying that it is an opportunity for students to know about this community. Rai provided awards for the winners of art competition related to sexuality.
