APREIC kicks off with LGBTI forum

Kathmandu (Pahichan) October 10 – Asia Pacific Regional Educational Institutional Conference (APREIC) kicked off at hotel Yak and Yeti on October 9 .  The conference with many forums has a forum of LGBTI.

Teacher’s organization and education related stakeholders from the Asia Pacific region gathered in Kathmandu for the conference.

The theme of conference is to ensure LGBTI friendliness in school.

In the conference, various teacher organizations, educational stakeholders and LGBTI members from Nepal participated in the conference.In the first session Bharat Shrestha from FHI linkages, Nepal presented on Nepal’s condition of LGBTI in educational sector.

The challenges related to LGBTI and certain positive changes regarding their issues were presented. The issue of lack of education and inclusion in curriculum in right way, then implementation was focused in the discussions, while examples from various countries was also presented.

The second panel was taken by Rukshana Kapali and Bhakti Shah from Nepal. Rukshana Kapali explained her experiences during school days while Bhakti Shah from Gender and Sexual Minorities Students Forum.
