Kathmandu (Pahichan) November 11 – Blue Diamond Society has organized an orientation program targeting government officials. Save the Children provided financial support for one-day orientation.
The program which has been launched in 10 districts of Kathmandu and Banke aims to identify the homosexual and transgender children. The program will conclude in 2020. Bhumika Shrestha, program coordinator of children’s security and protection said the program to end the discriminate against children.
Dilli Guragai, Coordinator of Children governance and Protection said there should not be discrimination against transgender. Guragain said laws should be formulated as per the internal treaties and convention.
Executive Director of Blue Diamond Society Manisha Dhakal said the purpose of such training to make LGBTI-friendly environment. She said creating awareness would help to end discrimination against this community.
Prem Kumari Sharma of Ministry of Education said teachers should have knowledge about LGBTI community. She was previously a school teacher. She remembered her teaching days saying when she used to teach a student of this community. She said if teachers do not understand the feeling of transgender they will give up their study in half-way.
