Shah questions over NSU’s delay to appoint LGBTI members

Kavre (Pahichan) December 4 – Transgender rights activists Bhakti Shah has said that Nepal Student Union (NSU) has not yet incorporated representatives in its organizational structures. In a meeting with Nepali Congress leader Madhu Acharya in Kavre Dhulikhel, Shah asked why NSU is still undecided about is commitment.

“The issue of gender and sexual minority is addressed in your election manifesto. However, it is not reflected in party’s organizational structures,” Shah said adding that though two members were selected in Central Committee, they have not been elected in Central Committee. Shah said members of this community did not receive opportunity in the local, provincial and federal parliament. Shah said though members of this community cast their votes.

Acharya expressed commitment that he would play role to address issues of this community. ”We do not have the policy of abandoning this community. Our policy is to address the issues of this community,” said Acharya.  He said it is humiliating that money factor is becoming the determining in the election process.  “We have to stop such tendencies, please think about it,” Acharya said.
