Kathmandu (Pahichan) April 20 – Tribhuwan University, the oldest university, is all set to allow students from gender and sexual minority to fill registration forms as per their gender identity.
The university is preparing to organize its senate meeting to resolve the dispute erupted after transgender women Rukshana Kapali demanded to fill registration form as per gender identity and TU officials initially rejected such request.
The senate meeting which is taking place on Bhaishak is expected to decide about incorporating ‘Other’ category along with male and female. Pushpa Raj Joshi, Controller of Examinations said, “Members of this community get the rights to fill registration forms. Even the Vice-chancellor of TU has expressed this concern over the problems faced by this community.
A month ago, a team of Blue Diamond Society has drawn the attention of TU about the problems faced by this community. Joshi said they are investigating the existing laws to make provisions for this community. Supreme Court has already issued notifications to ensure gender identity in the academic certificates.
