Call for effective implementation of Geneva declaration

Kathmandu ( Pahichan) January 25-People with homosexuality and transgender have said that government is yet to make a commitment to implement the Geneva declaration though Nepal is a signatory.

Speaking at a program organized by Blue Diamond Society, they said government signs each and every treaty but fails to translate them into action. The declaration has ensured that all the people have equal human rights, but in Nepal government has not given permission for the registration of homosexuals and transgender, they said.

“We have approached district administration office for the registration of an organization that works for the rights of men homosexuals,” Acting Director of BDS Manisha Dhakal said, “But, chief district officer ordered us to delete the Homosexual words.”

She said the issue of human rights have not bee implemented. “Where are our rights,” she questioned.  She requested the Universal Periodic Review to incorporate the verdicts given by Supreme Court in 2064 BS.

Vice-Chairman of BDS Umesh Pandey said homosexuals and transgender are facing immigration related problems while going aboard. He said passports should be distributed on the basis of their identity and there is a separate provision of jail for sexual minorities.

Human Right Department Chief of Society Bhumika Shrestha said they are being denied from basic rights showing the technical problems. She said international organizations should raise their organizations.

Representative of Universal Periodic Review, Home Mathew assured that he will report the report suggesting the problems and address related to sexual minorities. “All the human beings have equal human rights,” he said.
