Indira Neupane/Makawanpur (Pahichan) March 26 – A homosexual couple of Makawanpur district has tied a knot providing an open challenge to society. Transgender Anita Bhujel tied knot with Bhola Miya of Birgunj. They have already received citizenship under the ‘O’ category.
Their marriage has challenged the country as well as law of the country. They said such activities would be helpful to make the ongoing debates and discussions related to sexual and gender minorities even more positive. Bhujel said their marriage aims to change the wrong perception of the society towards sexual and gender minorities.
Bhujel said that they should be allowed to register marriage at district administration office. So far, there is not any legal mechanism regarding the registration of marriage. A month ago, a government committee recommended legalizing the same-sex marriage. If government takes measures towards the formation of such laws, it would give relief to this community.
