Kathmandu (Pahichan) June 19 – Nepal government is preparing to launch programs targeting sexual and gender minorities; homosexuals and transgender. Programs proposed by Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare states that programs will be launched to provide assistances for the sexual and gender minorities. Ministry has already recommended programs to the National Planning Commission as demanded by Blue Diamond Society.
Planning Commission has forwarded the proposal to Ministry of Finance for the budget approval. According to Under Secretary Ram Prasad Bhattarai some minor programs will be operated targeting the human rights of gender and sexual minorities.
Bhattarai informed that programs have been fixed for the allocation of budget. He informed that proposal will be sought from the respected parties for the operation of program. In the previous fiscal year, Blue Diamond Society had demanded budget targeting the community.
Deputy Director of Society Prashuram Rai said assistance is needed for the operation of awareness programs. He said if Ministry comes up with a program it would be a great relief for this community.
