Kathmandu (Pahichan) November 23 – Manisha Dhakal has been reelected as Chairman Federation of sexual and gender minority. A 13-member working committee has been formed under the leadership of Dhakal. Raju Lama is Vice-chair, while Manoraanjam Kumar Baidya has been elected as general secretary. Pinki Gurung is treasurer.
As per development region wise representation, Shivani Rajdhami has been elected from eastern region, Bhumika Shrestha from central region, Raju Thakali from western region, Parina Chaudhary from mid-western region, and Arun Subedi from far-western regions has been elected. In the federation, altogether 40 organizations are affiliated and 13 organizations have submitted application for the affiliation. The organization was established in 2007.
The organization was established for the protection of human right, education, employment and other social and cultural rights of this community. This is a fourth time Dhakal has been re-elected as Chairman of the body. “I have felt more responsibility than being happy for my re-election,” said Dhakal. “I have been elected to hold the position of formulating policy and program and influence,” said Dhakal.
Dhakal said she would give continuation to the past programs and will bring new programs. “We have to give continuation to past programs because we began some programs very late,” said Dhakal. “We have to prepare new programs as new constitution has provided rights to this community,” said Dhakal. FHI360 Project officer Ashima Shrestha said the program launched by federation are positive and they should get continuation.
