Role of media is vital to end discrimination: Dr. Joshi

Kathmandu (Pahichan) January 18 – Community Medical Department Chief of Kathmandu Medical College Dr. Sunil Joshi has said that role of media is vital to end discrimination against homosexual and transgender.  Speaking at a research discussion jointly organized by KMC and Lisiyan University Sweden on gender inequality and media, Joshi said homosexual and transgender should be treated equally like man and women. “We would incorporate this issue in our research related to gender inequality,” said Joshi.

He said homosexual and transgender are facing discrimination and violence like female. At the program, artists Diya Maske said media should provide support to end discrimination against homosexual and transgender.

“They should not be forced to marry against their will, many homosexual are facing discrimination, they should get right to live with freedom” said Maske.  Researcher Pranab Dahal of the University said while taking about gender inequality, the issue of gender and sexual minority should not be excluded.  “My research has included the issue of gender and sexual minority along with discrimination against women.”
