Finland Legalizes Same sex marriage

Finland/Pahichan – On Wednesday, Finland finalized the language of its marriage equality law, which takes effect in March 2017. Prime Minister Sauli Niinistö signed the bill into law on February 20, 2015, after it passed in parliament by 92 out of 105 votes.

But this week the legislature approved changes to the legal code that allow same-sex couples in registered partnerships to covert to marriage. Such partnerships were enacted in 2002, and granted same-sex couples all marital rights except for adoption. The new language will abolish them, leaving marriage as the only option.
