CBS to exclude LGBTI community in national census
Kathmandu (Pahichan) August 11 – Central Bureau of Statistics has said that there are not any preparations to count the population of sexual and gender minority.
The first draft of questionnaire prepared Bureau includes only male and female section. Bureau has conducting in census in 2078 B.S. The earlier census was held in 2068. Director Dhundiraj Lamichanne informed that there are only male and females.
He said there are very fewer chances of counting his population. He said there are still tendencies of concealing the gender identity. He, however, said that a separate section could be included.
Bureau is seeking advice from provinces, district and local level. Lamichhane said population of this community could be ascertained conducting a separate survey after the completion of census. According to him, the survey would focus only about this community.
