Society should be positive on LGBTI candidates : Gurung

Kathmandu (Pahichan) June 22 – Stating that there are LGBTI candidates in the first and second phase of local level elections, Chairman of Blue Diamond Society Pinky Gurung has expressed optimisms that society would take it in a positive way.

Speaking to Pahichan, she said in the first phase of election, a member of this community fought for ward member in Kathmandu and in the second phase of election a member of this community is fighting for ward chair in Tilotama Municipality of Rupandehi.

She said members of this community would vote for their candidates. In other places, they vote for those people who are positive about the issues of gender and sexual minority, she said.  Gurung said big political parties are focused on how to win the election instead of policy and theory.

She said electoral alliance among the parties reflects such situation. She said Naya Shakit has promoted members of this community making them candidates in the first as well as second phase of election.

She said in comparision to others, Naya Shakti is more friendly to gender and sexual minority issues.  Gurung is the head of Naya Shakti’s Dalit and Minority Department Chief. There is no such provisions in other political parties.
